SOUTH BEND, IN - The South Bend Cubs five game winning streak was snapped by the Lake County Captains at Four Winds Field Monday night 6-1.

South Bend starter Adbert Alzolay gave up single runs over the first five innings allowing the Captains to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Alzolay (5-4) finished the night allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits over five innings.

A different story for Captains starting pitcher Tom Pannone who tossed six innings of one run baseball to improve his record to 5-4.

The Cubs picked up a run and cut the deficit to 5-1 in the sixth inning of Pannone as Eddy Martinez RBI single plated Donnie Dewees who had doubled.

Cubs second baseman Carlos Sepulveda went two-for-five which extended his hitting streak to eight games.

South Bend drops game one of a seven game home stand but the Cubs still have the best home record in the Midwest League with a record of 25-12.

Game two of the four game series is Tuesday at 7:05pm at Four Winds Field. All-star Carson Sands (5-1, 3.72) pitches for the Cubs.
