Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Clinton LumberKings made the most of their opportunities and defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 10-2 Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
Clinton's three-run rally in the top of the third inning started with a dropped third strike. Wisconsin starting pitcher Jordan Yamamoto struck out Braden Bishop for what looked like the second out of the inning. But, the ball glanced off the glove of catcher Mitch Ghelfi to allow Bishop to take first base. Yamamoto walked the next two batters to load the bases. Clinton (43-31 overall, 5-0 second half) took the lead on a two-run double to left by Dalton Kelly. Alex Jackson grounded out to short to allow the final run of the inning score.
The Rattlers (37-38, 3-2) scored a run in the bottom of the third. Carlos Belonis drew a leadoff walk. Luis Aviles doubled to left to drive in Belonis.
The LumberKings pulled away in the fourth. Connor Hale singled and Chris Mariscal doubled to start the inning. A walk to Arturo Nieto loaded the bases. Braden Bishop drove in the first run of the inning with a slow roller to short. Luis Liberato followed with a two-run single to knock Yamamoto out of the game. Rayder Ascanio welcomed reliever Alex Farina to the game with an RBI double to score Liberato and the LumberKings were up 7-1.
Clinton tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to build their lead out to 10-1. Mariscal had an RBI double in the fifth. A wild pitch with a runner at third and two outs let in a run in the sixth. A Wisconsin error allowed a run to score in the seventh.
The Timber Rattlers got the last run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Isan Diaz in the bottom of the ninth.
Wisconsin had nine hits in the game, but went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners in the game.
The Timber Rattlers and LumberKings meet in game two of the series on Tuesday afternoon. Conor Harber (1-2, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Nick Neidert (4-1, 2.14) is set to start for Clinton. Game time is 12:05pm.
