Rice Promoted to Myrtle Beach

SOUTH BEND, IN - Catcher Ian Rice Friday has been promoted from the South Bend Cubs to the Advanced-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The 22-year old catcher in 39 games hit .310 with a .417 on base percentage. Rice leaves South Bend tied for the team lead with nine home runs plus 27 runs batted in.

The University of Houston product set professional career highs on May 28 against Lansing with two home runs and five driven in.

The Chicago Cubs drafted Rice in the 29th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

South Bend will have a 24-man roster for Friday's 7:05pm first pitch at Dayton.
