Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Colin Moran smoked a tenth inning triple off the left field wall and scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly as the Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 7-6 on Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Trailing 6-5 in the top of the ninth, Brett Phillips singled and moved to third on a Teoscar Hernandez base hit. The Riders turned a double play, but Philips advanced home to tie the game for the Hooks.
Corpus Christi's first comeback of the game came in the sixth inning. Down 4-0, the Hooks answered with a five-run frame to take the lead. Seven consecutive Hooks batters reached base, capped by a two-run single from Jio Mier to give the Hooks a 5-4 advantage.
Frisco reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the sixth. Trever Adams knocked a RBI-double to tie the game. Drew Robinson struck out, but a wild pitch allowed Preston Beck to score the go-ahead run. Adams notched his 10th multi-hit game and had two RBI.
The Riders took a 3-0 lead in the fourth thanks to Nomar Mazara. The outfielder knocked a two-run home run for his 12th long ball of the season. Nick Williams put Frisco on top 4-0 with a double that scored Patrick Cantwell in the fifth.
Both starters tossed no decisions in the contest. Frisco right-hander Victor Payano allowed two hits over five scoreless innings. Kyle Westwood lasted 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out six.
David Martinez (2-5) received a blown save and the loss with runs allowed in both the ninth and tenth frames. Jandel Gustave (3-1) threw the final three innings to pick up the win.
The RoughRiders (17-11, 46-52) will count on RHP Jose Leclerc Sunday against LHP Josh Hader in the 6:05 p.m. series finale against the Hooks (15-14, 63-36).
