Arkansas Travelers News Release

Tulsa, OK - The Arkansas Travelers came back for a second-straight night to win 6-4 over the Tulsa Drillers at ONEOK Field on Friday.

Trailing 1-0 entering the sixth, C Anthony Bemboom doubled off RHP Jeremy Kehrt (L, 6-7) who had faced the minimum over his previous 13 batters. After 3B Drew Maggi advanced Bemboom to third, LF Ruben Sosa picked up his first RBI as a Trav with a triple to left. Sosa scored on a 2B Sherman Johnson sacrifice fly to give Arkansas a 2-1 lead. Bemboom threw out pinch-runner Robbie Garvey in the bottom of the fifth to swing the momentum.

The Travs scored two more in the seventh thanks to back-to-back doubles from RF Blake Gailen and DH Brian Hernandez, and a Drillers fielding error.

After Tulsa got one back in the seventh to make it a 4-2 ballgame, Arkansas scored twice for a third-straight frame in the eighth on RBI singles from Gailen and 1B Wade Hinkle.

The Drillers made things interesting in the ninth. RHP Nate Hyatt issued a four-pitch walk to DH Adam Law to begin the frame before LF Brian Burgamy launched a two-run home run to right to slice the deficit in half. But after a 3B Ronald Torreyes fly out and CF Peter Lavin single, RF Yadir Drake grounded into a game-ending double play.

McGowin worked into the seventh and tossed six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Austin Adams (H, 3) came on in the seventh with runners on first and second and nobody out and pitched through the eighth. He did not allow a run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts over his two innings.

Gailen and Hernandez both finished 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI, and Gailen stole a base.

Arkansas went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position & improved to 13-2 on the road with outfielder Chad Hinshaw in the lineup.

With the win, the Travs improved to 50-47 on the season and 14-14 in the second half. Arkansas and Tulsa will play game three of the four-game series on Saturday. LHP Nate Smith (All-Star Game / PanAm Games) will make his first start for Arkansas in exactly a month. He'll toe the rubber against RHP Jharel Cotton (4-1, 2.39). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
