Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Naturals' outfielder *Lane Adams *had already extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the fifth inning and then another one in the seventh; but he made sure he kept Northwest Arkansas alive in the top of the ninth trailing 2-1 to Springfield. The Red Oak, Okla. native drilled a 3-2 fastball from *Ronnie Shaban (2-2, 2.67) *over the centerfield wall to lead-off the ninth frame and tie the game at 2-2.
Adams' seventh home run of the season ignited a six-run, seven-hit inning to lead Northwest Arkansas (50-47/10-17) to a 7-2 win over the Springfield (45-54/15-13) on Friday night at Hammons Field.
The Naturals scored the six runs on four doubles, a triple, a home run and single as the seven hits accounted for a season-high in knocks in a single inning.
Following Adams' home run, *Frank Schwindel *continued to batter Shaban smacking an 0-2 breaking ball into right-centerfield for a double. *Ramon Torres *replaced Schwindel on the base paths and he scored a batter later. *Parker Morin *roped an RBI double down the first base line and wound up on third base following an error put the Naturals ahead, 3-2 for the first time on the night. But they would not be through.
*Gabriel Noriega *delivered his first double and first RBI hitting one down the left-field line. He would score three batters later when *Hunter Dozier *connected for his 22nd double of the year making it 4-2, Naturals with two outs in the inning.
*Alex Liddi *dribbled a single through the hole on the right side to score Dozier and *Jorge Bonifacio *smacked his second triple of the season to cap the six-run frame.
Springfield plated two early runs off Naturals' starter *Luke Farrell *with one in the first inning and one more in the third and rode the two-run lead into the sixth inning when the game was halted. Heavy winds came in and disrupted the play for one hour and 23 minutes as new arms began following the delay.
Right-handed starter for Springfield *Andrew Morales *exited in the top of the sixth after the interruption with the bases loaded and no one out; but reliever *Corey Baker* wiggled his way out of the jam to maintain the 2-0 Cardinal lead.
The Naturals were sparked by Adams in the seventh inning as he opened the inning with a single to left and scored later in the inning with a sacrifice fly by *Raul Mondesi*. Mondesi finished the game 1-for-4 four a single.
Right-hander *Aroni Nina *threw a shutout bottom of the sixth inning and gave way to *Kyle Zimmer (1-0, 0.68) *who pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings. Zimmer began the ninth frame; but was pulled with one out and a man on first base for right-hander *Benino Pruneda *to get the final two outs in the game.
With the win, the Naturals tie the series with Springfield and look to secure, at least, a split of the set with left-hander *Sean Manaea (0-1, 9.00) *set to make his second Double-A start on the season. The southpaw will counter against the Cardinals top pitching prospect *Alex Reyes* who makes his Double-A debut on Saturday at Hammons Field.
