SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (50-48/10-18) dropped game three of the four game series to the Springfield Cardinals (46-53/16-13) on Saturday night by a final score of 12-4 at Hammons Field.
Naturals outfielder Jorge Bonifacio led the offense with a 2-for-4 night with a pair of doubles and two runs driven in. Bonifacio now has 53 RBI surpassing his season total of 51 from 2014. The outfielder tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning driving in Raul Mondesi from second base and cut into the Cardinals lead in the top of the eighth inning with a RBI double in the 12-4 loss.
Left-hander Sean Manaea worked 4.0 innings of one-run baseball and recorded six strikeouts in his second Double-A start. The Wanatah, Ind. native did not factor in the decision.
Springfield untied the 1-1 score in the fifth inning plating five runs on four hits off reliever Sam Selman (3-4, 5.40) and right-hander Matt Murray. Cardinals added six runs in the sixth inning before the Naturals mounted their comeback.
The Naturals look for their third straight series split with the finale is set for Sunday, July 26th with a 6:10 p.m. first pitch. Left-hander Cody Reed (2-2, 3.45) takes the hill for his sixth start of the season looking to build off his seven shutout innings of the Tulsa Drillers on July 21. Countering for the Cardinals is right-hander Arturo Reyes (5-6, 2.51).
