LINCOLN - The annual Homer's Heroes at Haymarket Park baseball game, featuring members of the Junior Saltdogs League and the Lincoln Saltdogs will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. at Bowlin Stadium.

The Homer's Heroes division of the Junior Saltdogs League is for boys and girls with physical or intellectual disabilities, ages 5 to 17.

"To our kids this is as big as the College World Series," program coordinator Jeanne Cuda said. "They get to play with their idols. The Saltdogs players are so good to them."

There are currently 107 players registered, divided up into eight teams that will rotate between playing on the diamond with Saltdogs players, taking photographs, and other fun activities.

The Homer's Heroes division plays a six-week season, beginning the first Saturday in June with one game played at the Haymarket Park complex with Lincoln Saltdogs players.

The Optimist Clubs of Lincoln established the program in 1992 and has coordinated this baseball league since that time. The Saltdogs have been hosting the annual game at the Haymarket Park complex since 2002.
