Pheasants Acquire Pitcher Fowler from Winnipeg

SIOUX FALLS- The Sioux Falls Pheasants announced on Friday the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Barry Fowler off waivers from the Winnipeg Goldeyes. In a corresponding move, the Pheasants placed right-handed reliever Ben Rosen on irrevocable waivers.

Fowler, 35, is a rookie who pitched in six games, including three starts, with Winnipeg this season. He went 0-1 in six appearances with a 4.22 ERA. He walked four and struck out six in 21 1/3 innings of work, including a start against Sioux Falls on June 14. He took a no-decision in the Pheasants' 4-3 win.

Fowler resides in Atlanta, Ga., and made his professional debut with the El Paso Diablos last season. He went 0-2 in 22 games of relief with a 5.97 ERA. In 34 2/3 innings, Fowler walked 13 and struck out 18 batters.

Fowler pitched for two seasons with the University of Georgia Bulldogs in 1998 and 1999.

Rosen appeared in eight games, all in relief. He was 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA in nine innings of work. His was with Sioux Falls for part of the 2010 season.

The Pheasants' roster stands at the league maximum of 22 players.

The Sioux Falls Pheasants continue a four-game series against division-rival Fargo-Moorhead at 7:02 p.m. on Friday, June 17, in Fargo.
