LINCOLN -- Tim Brown pitched eight terrific innings to lead the Saltdogs to a 4-1 win over the Sioux City Explorers in front of 3,595 fans at Haymarket Park Friday night.

Dustin Jones hit a home run to left on the first pitch of the game but that would be all for Sioux City. Brown (3-4) went eight innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out two to earn the victory.

PJ Zocchi booked the final three outs to record his league-leading 10th save of the year.

Saltdogs starting pitchers have allowed just one run in the last 22 2/3 innings, good for a 0.40 ERA.

Lincoln tied the game up quickly in the last of the first on a Blake Gailen triple, followed by a Brandon Jones RBI double.

The ‘Dogs added to their lead with two run-scoring ground outs in the fourth inning. Phil Hawke tacked on a solo home run, his fifth of the year, in the bottom of the seventh to make it 4-1.

With the win tonight Lincoln improves to 18-17, over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

The teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for game three of the four-game series. Alex Maestri (2-3, 4.89) is scheduled to pitch for the ‘Dogs. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
