Hitmen Fall to Ice 5-4 in Overtime

Calgary, AB- The Calgary Hitmen welcomed the Winnipeg Ice to the Scotiabank Saddledome this afternoon for the first time this season. A late third period comeback and three power play goals earned Calgary a point in a 5-4 overtime loss.

Carson Latimer kicked things off for Winnipeg scoring the lone goal of the first period. A big kill by Calgary near the end of the first held Winnipeg off the scoresheet heading into the second period. The second proved to be packed with special teams and was capped off with a power play goal from Sean Tschigerl with four minutes to go in the period. Winnipeg wasted no time regaining the lead in the third courtesy of Owen Pederson putting one past Brayden Peters just 22 seconds in. Maxim Muranov had an answer less than two minutes later tying the game for Calgary once again.

Easton Armstrong and Graham Sward would net goals back to back for Winnipeg giving them a two goal lead heading into the final 10 minutes. Winnipeg found themselves in the box twice, allowing for Calgary to capitalize and tie the game in under two minutes with goals from Oliver Tulk and Sean Tschigerl, ultimately forcing the game to overtime. Winnipeg would come out victorious in extra minutes with Owen Pederson scoring his second of the game securing the 5-4 win over Calgary.

Oliver Tulk had a three point night with a goal and two assists. Sean Tschigerl earned first star of the game his two goals, while Carter Yakemchuk and Riley Fiddler-Schultz both notched two points each.

Calgary is back at home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 to host Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats in a 7:00 p.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome. Find all the ticket information at HitmenHockey.com.
