
Tigers Comeback, Defeat Pats 6-4

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats had a 4-1 lead, but the Medicine Hat Tigers pushed back with a late comeback, defeating the Pats a 6-4 in front of a sold out Brandt Centre (6,499) on Sunday.
The Pats were off and running early in the game, holding a 3-1 lead after one and a 4-2 advantage after 40 minutes of play. Connor Bedard tallied his fifth hat-trick of the year (3G-1A) in a four point effort, while Zane Rowan scored his second of the season. Drew Sim faced 23 shots in the third, and 38 throughout the game, making 33 saves.
The Tigers completed the comeback in the third period, coming back down 4-1 for their 19th victory of the season. Bogdans Hodass scored twice, including the tying goal while Tomas Mrsic scored the g0-ahead goal late in the third frame. Andrew Basha (1G-1A), Pavel Bocharov and Brayden Boehm rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. Beckett Langkow made 21 saves for his 17th win of the season.

THE GOALS
First Period
REG 1-0 at 9:15 - Connor Bedard (40), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Borya Valis (PP) // Late on a powerplay, Svozil fed the puck to Bedard at the point, he pulled a nice deke around a Tigers player and fired a wrist shot from the slot, high blocker-side past Langkow to give the Pats a 1-0 lead halfway through the opening frame.
REG 2-0 at 13:30 - Connor Bedard (41), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Alexander Suzdalev // A Pats turnover led directly to a three-on-one that was stopped by Sim, and the Pats went the other way with speed and Svozil's shot was stopped by Langkow but the rebound bounced out to Bedard who made no mistake, giving the Pats a 2-0 lead.
MH 2-1 at 15:43 - Pavel Bocharov (10), assisted by Andrew Basha and Oasiz Weisblatt // Basha's shot sailed wide of the Pats net and a fortuitous bounce came off the back boards all the way to Bocharov who sent the puck into a wide-open cage to get the Tigers on the board, down 2-1.
REG 3-1 at 19:39 - Zane Rowan (2), assisted by Connor Bedard // Bedard made a nice play along the boards in front of the Tigers bench and sent Rowan in on a two-on-one with Quiring. Rowan fired a nice wrist shot over Langkow's blocker to give the Pats their second two-goal lead of the game at 3-1 late in the opening stanza.
Second Period
REG 4-1 at 13:47 - Connor Bedard (42), assisted by Luke Bateman and Parker Berge // Berge sent a cross-ice pass to Bateman along the Tigers blueline and from the left point Bateman found Bedard at the back door as he tapped in his hat-trick marker to extend the lead to 4-1.
MH 4-2 at 16:57 - Andrew Basha (11), unassisted // Basha chipped the puck past the Pats defender to himself and ripped a shot over Sim's glove hand to get the Tigers back to within a pair at 4-2.
Third Period
MH 4-3 at 6:28 - Bogdans Hodass (8), assisted by Cayden Lindstrom // Lindstrom won an offensive zone draw back to Hodass who ripped a slapshot past Sim to pull the Tigers back to within a single tally at 4-3.
MH 4-4 at 14:34 - Bogdans Hodass (9), assisted by Oasiz Weisblatt // Another offensive zone face-off win by the Tigers led to the game-tying as Hodass' point-shot beat a screened Sim to even the game up a 4-4.
MH 4-5 at 16:41 - Tomas Mrsic (7), assisted by Brayden Boehm and Tyler McKenzie // The Tigers took the lead as Mrsic fired a shot past a screened Sim to give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 5-4.
MH 4-6 at 19:59 - Brayden Boehm (18), unassisted (EN) // Boehm picked up the loose puck skated in, and sealed the contest with an empty net goal with just one second left to give the Tigers a 6-4 win.

NOTES
Connor Bedard extended his point streak to 33 games with a hat-trick and an assist. He has 63 points in his last 22 games. He leads the WHL in goals (42), tied for first in assists (43), points (85), and shots on goal (225). He has 15 goals, six assists and 21 points in six games since coming back from the World Juniors. He's also scored 20 times during his career-high nine-game goal-scoring streak.
Stanislav Svozil had two assists and now has 11 points (11A) in his five games since returning from the World Juniors. His 43 assists put him in a tie for first in the league with teammate Connor Bedard.
Alexander Suzdalev had an assist to extend his point streak to six games (3G-7A-10PTS).
The Pats' four-game home winning streak came to an end.
The Pats' special teams were a bright spot, going 1/3 on the powerplay and killing both penalties.
The Pats are now 9-5-1-1 against the Central Division this season.
UP NEXT
The Pats have a busy week ahead as they travel to Alberta and play four games in six days. Starting Tuesday, January 31st the Pats travel to Red Deer to play the Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium, with an 8:00 pm face-off. They continue the next night (February 1st) in Calgary, where they will battle with the Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome, also an 8:00 pm faceoff. The Queen City Kids have a day off, then blow into Lethbridge to play the Hurricanes on Friday, February 3rd at 8:00 pm at the Enmax Centre. They conclude their four-game trip with a stop in Medicine Hat to play the Tigers on Sunday, February 5th with a 5:00 pm face-off at Co-Op Place.All games are in Saskatchewan time.
