Three-in-Three

A busy weekend hasn't slowed down the Hawks - with two wins in their pocket from Friday and Saturday, Portland will look to push its winning streak to six as they take on the Spokane Chiefs this afternoon. After a 6-3 thriller on Pride Night, the Hawks went into Seattle on Saturday and came back with first place in the Western Conference, knocking off the T-Birds 5-2 on their ice. Since returning from their East Division road trip, the Winterhawks have posted at least five goals in each of their five consecutive victories, while Dante Giannuzzi and Jan Špunar have each won multiple outings between the pipes.

Gearing up for their third game in as many nights, the Hawks will have to keep their energy high to grab another win. Look for a fast start from the hosts as they chase another early lead against the Chiefs.

Familiar Foe

Speaking of Spokane, it was just six days ago that these two clubs faced off on Kids Day, where the Winterhawks dominated en route to a 6-1 win. Portland is now 3-0-0-0 against Spokane this season, having scored five or more goals in each contest and outscored their opponent 19-10 overall. Jack O'Brien (8 points), Robbie Fromm-Delorme (7 points) and James Stefan (7 points) have enjoyed games against the Chiefs this year, while Raegan Wiles (6 points) and Chase Bertholet (6 points) have led Spokane in the season series.

It's the second matchup in a week's time but just the fourth this year, meaning these two clubs are about to get to know one another. The Hawks and Chiefs are set to face off twice more in February and then again twice in March to wrap up the season series, after battling just twice in the first three months of the season.

The All-Americans and the Top Prospect

When Chaz Lucius made his debut, he joined a line with two other American forwards and the trio immediately thrived. Lucius has posted back-to-back three-point outings and netted the game-winner in Seattle last night, bringing his total to four goals and nine assists for 13 points thus far. The Lawrence, Kan. native has bagged multiple points in each of his five games played, serving as a key cog in Portland's current five-game winning streak. His linemates, James Stefan and Jack O'Brien, have also upped their production. Stefan, keeping pace with Lucius, has tallied four goals and eight helpers in the five-game span and has six points this weekend. O'Brien has points in three straight and seven total in the five games together, posting two tallies and five helpers.

On the blue line, Luca Cagnoni has returned from the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game with renewed confidence in the offensive zone, notching two goals in Seattle last night and a goal and an assist on Friday against Swift Current. After a solid showing at the event in Langley, Cagnoni continues to impress and should rise up the NHL Draft rankings as we draw closer to June.
