Hitmen Continue Surge by Thumping Spokane

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen ran their point streak to five games and climbed to within a single point of a Western Hockey League playoff spot with a 7-4 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday afternoon at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Sophomore forwards Ethan Moore (2g, 1a) and Carson Wetsch (1g, 2a) paced the Calgary attack with three points each while Maxim Muranov added a goal and an assist. All three players extended their lengthy point streaks in the process. Moore now has points in 10 straight games with Muranov pushing his streak to eight games and Wetsch running his goal streak to three games.

Goaltender Ethan Buenaventura made several timely saves for the Hitmen including a shaft of his goal stick stop on Ty Cheveldayoff and a back door rush chance of Chase Bertholet.

Oliver Tulk with his team leading 23rd, Carter Yakemchuk with his 17th and Tyson Greenway with his fourth rounded out the scoring the Hitmen who built period leads of 2-1 and 5-2.

Spokane received their markers from Conner Roulette, Hayden Paupanekis, Saige Weinstein and Chase Bertholet on a day where they outshot Calgary 38-32.

On the special teams front the Hitmen went 2-3 on the power play and killed two of three chances for the Chiefs.

The Hitmen will wrap the weekend on Sunday, Jan. 14 when they host former Hitmen teammates Brandon Whynott, Carter MacAdams, Mason Finley and the Tri-City Americans. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the 'Dome in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential. In addition to $3 sips and snacks specials all game long, look for family fun entertainment on the west concourse. There are also $6 Hitmen Happy Hour food and drink deals throughout the day and a post-game family skate.
