Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants are pleased to announce that three players have been named to NHL Central Scouting's midterm ranking for the 2024 NHL Draft.
Central Scouting revealed the ranking of the top North American skaters and goalies, along with the top International skaters and goalies, on Friday morning.
Cracking the list for Vancouver was defenceman Colton Roberts (Round 1), forward Tyler Thorpe (Round 4) and forward Adam Tiltbach (Round 7).
Only five WHL teams had more than three skaters listed (Caglary [5], Edmonton [4], Everett [4], Lethbridge [4] and Medicine Hat [4]).
Roberts (Maple Ridge, B.C.) is one of 18 WHL players selected to compete in the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 in Moncton, N.B. In 40 games, the 17-year-old has seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points, including 11 power play points.
Thorpe (Richmond, B.C.) leads the Giants with 19 goals in 40 games, and has 33 points (third on Vancouver). He leads the team with 129 shots on goal. Ten of his 33 points have come on the power play, while he has also chipped in with two shorthanded points.
Titlbach (Litvinov, CZE) has five goals and 15 points in 40 games so far this season, his first in North America. The 17-year-old has 70 shots on goal, four power play points and one game-winning-goal.
The Giants had previously had four players crack the 'Preliminary Players to Watch' List, which was released on October 25. At that time, Roberts ('B'), defenceman Marek Howell ('C'), Tiltbach ('C') and Thorpe ('W') were all named.
Unlike the preliminary rankings that use a tiered letter-grade system, the midterm rankings simply go numerically, with the top 224 North American skaters being ranked (seven rounds) and the top-32 North American goalies being ranked (one round). Five rounds of European skaters are also ranked (135 players), as well as 15 European goaltenders.
Below is the breakdown of the three Giants players and their rankings.
Rank (N.A. Skaters) Last Name First Name Hometown Team Ht Wt Pos
24th Roberts Colton Maple Ridge, B.C. Vancouver Giants 6'4" 198 D
110th Thorpe Tyler Richmond, B.C. Vancouver Giants 6'4" 209 RW
223rd Titlbach Adam Litvinov, Czechia Vancouver Giants 5'9" 164 C
A total of 60 Western Hockey League players were listed on the midterm rankings: 52 skaters plus eight WHL goaltenders. This includes 12 WHL skaters that were ranked in the top-32 (Round 1) of North American skaters.
Topping the list amongst WHL representatives was Cayden Lindstrom (3rd, Medicine Hat Tigers), Carter Yakemchuk (6th, Calgary Hitmen), Barkley Catton (9th, Spokane Chiefs), Tij Iginla (11th, Kelowna Rockets) and Adam Jecho (13th, Edmonton Oil Kings).
The 2024 draft is scheduled June 28-29. The NHL Draft Lottery to determine the first 16 picks in the draft will be announced at a later date.
