Home N' Home

The Battle with Seattle is alive and well this weekend with back-to-back rivalry tilts on Friday and Saturday! Festivities kick off tonight with a clash in Kent at the accesso ShoWare Center, where Portland took a 6-1 win back on Sept. 30, before shifting south for Pride Night at the VMC on Saturday night.

The Winterhawks have been in fine form against the T-Birds this season, scoring six or more goals in all three meetings en route to a 3-0-0 mark in the series thus far. Marcus Nguyen's seven points have led the way for Portland, with Kyle Chyzowski and Josh Zakreski following closely with six points apiece. Seattle's offense has struggled against Portland, but 2025 NHL Draft prospect Braeden Cootes has averaged a point per game against the Hawks.

No matter the season, Portland vs. Seattle games always deliver the rivalry goods - tonight should be a fun one. PLUS - don't forget that these two teams are hitting the ice at Climate Pledge Arena - home of the NHL's Seattle Kraken - in just over two months! Czech Out Who's Back!

After capturing the bronze medal with Team Czechia and being named one of the team's top three players of the tournament at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, Marek Alscher is back with the Winterhawks! The Florida Panthers prospect could make his return to the lineup in tonight's game after a nine-game absence as the Hawks look to continue rolling.

Alscher boasts nine points (2G, 7A) through 26 games thus far, but perhaps his greater value comes in his own zone where he plays a consistent, heavy defensive game to stifle opponents' top players. The Kladno, Czechia native usually pairs with Luca Cagnoni, whose smooth-skating playmaking style meshes well with Alscher's shutdown capabilities, but has proven capable of anchoring a partnership with any of Portland's defensemen.

He's not expected to make his Winterhawks debut until next week, but we can hardly wait to see Nate Danielson in action! The 2023 9th overall pick of the Detroit Red Wings was acquired during Wednesday's trade deadline in exchange for Nick Johnson, Rhett Ravndahl and three draft picks.

It's a steep price to pay - Johnson and Ravndahl will certainly be missed as quality players and excellent teammates on and off the ice, and two of the three draft picks will come in the first round - but Danielson's pedigree as a top-10 NHL draft pick, top-5 WHL draft pick and representative of Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship is a safe bet to strengthen Portland's already-stout championship credentials.

It's still a short wait for his first game in the black and squall gray, but we can still say welcome to the Winterhawks, Nate!
