Hit Parade Powers Dash Past Potomac

Woodbridge, VA - Winston-Salem registered a season-high 18 hits in defeating Potomac 6-3 in the series finale on Wednesday night at Pfitzner Stadium. After a single and two doubles in the first inning, the Dash registered 15 consecutive singles and had seven batters finish with two hits or more as they wrapped up their 14-game road trip with a 6-8 record.

The hit parade started early as Jordan Danks singled and Greg Paiml doubled to lead off the game against Potomac (7-7) starting pitcher Tom Milone. Salvador Sanchez drilled a two-run double to give Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead.

A two-out rally by the Dash in the second inning produced two more runs and a 4-0 advantage. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, Winston-Salem tallied four consecutive singles, including RBI hits by Danks and Paiml, who both finished with three hits. Jimmy Gallagher also finished with three hits to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, which is the longest streak in the Carolina League.

Potomac trimmed the Dash lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning keyed by a two-run triple by Tim Pahuta. Dan Nelson also added an RBI single for the Nationals. Christian Marrero plated a run with an RBI single for Winston-Salem in the fifth inning and Danks added a run-scoring single in the seventh inning that extended the Dash lead to 6-3.

Winston-Salem starting pitcher Charlie Shirek (2-0) tossed 5.2 innings and limited Potomac to three runs on five hits with three strikeouts to earn the win. Hector Santiago retired the side in order in the ninth inning to collect his first save of the season.

Milone (1-1) took the loss for Potomac after allowing five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. The southpaw entered the game leading the Carolina League with a 0.79 ERA.

The Dash will return to Winston-Salem for their home opener on Thursday, April 23 at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball (formerly Ernie Shore Field) against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. It will be the opener of a four-game series with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Dash will hand the ball to RHP Levi Maxwell (0-2, 6.75), while the Blue Rocks are expected to start LHP (1-0, 1.93).
