Kinston Indians News Release

Kinston's Lonnie Chisenhall hit a game tying grand slam in the top of the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Pelicans upended the K-Tribe 9-8 Wednesday night in South Carolina. It was Chisenhall's second straight game with a grand slam and five RBI. He finished the game 2-for-5. Chisenhall is now hitting .304 on the season.

The Pelicans busted out of the gates on Kinston starter Zach Putnam in the first inning as the first seven Myrtle Beach batters reached base with a hit and eventually scored. Down 7-1 after the first inning, Putnam settled down and kept Myrtle Beach scoreless through his last four innings of work. Kinston narrowed the Myrtle Beach lead to four with RBIs from Richard Martinez and Tim Fedroff in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, an error and two straight walks loaded the bases and set the table for Chisenhall's home run. Lucas Montero would give Kinston the lead with a two-out RBI single later in the inning.

With Kinston's Jonathan holt pitching in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Pelicans would rip the lead back from Kinston after an error by Chisenhall at third base was followed by a double and an intentional walk. An RBI ground out by Randy Gress tied the game at eight. With the infield in, Chisenhall snagged a sharply hit grounder off the bat of Benji Johnson and threw to third base as Freddie Freeman was away from the bag. Freeman was called safe on a very close play and the inning continued. Reliever Heath Taylor was called in from the pen, getting Quentin Davis to strike out, then giving up a walk to Matt Kennelly that drove in the eventual winning run. Holt (1-1), took the loss for Kinston.

The K-Tribe returns to Grainger Stadium Thursday to open up a seven game homestand. Kinston starter Ryan Morris will take the hill at 7pm against the Lynchburg Hillcats.
