Hiscock Throws Complete Game as 'Cats Sweep Sox

GARY, Ind. - Stephen Hiscock pitched a complete game and the RailCats bats came alive in a 12-2 win to complete a sweep of the Amarillo Sox on Thursday night. It was the first time the RailCats have swept their opponent this season. They have won four in a row for the first time this season and seven of their last nine to improve to 37-41.
The RailCats jumped on Sox starter Chuck Lofgren for three runs in the first inning. Mike Massaro doubled to the gap in right center and Chris Carrara reached on a bunt single. Ryan Babineau then hit a two-run triple into the right field corner and scored on Brian Kolb's groundout.
Hiscock held the Sox scoreless until the fourth. Adam Buschini hit an RBI double and then scored on a fielder's choice by Patrick Arlis on a close play at the plate to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Gary's bats woke up in the seventh inning against Lofgren. Massaro dropped down a bunt single and Carrara was hit by a pitch. That set the stage for Ryan Babineau who delivered a two-run single. He moved to third on a bad throw from the center fielder and then scored on Eric Suttle's bunt single to make it 6-2. Suttle was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in his RailCats debut.
The 'Cats added six runs in the eighth to blow the game wide open. Amarillo made a pair of errors in the inning allowing Massaro to drive in a run on a groundout to first. Carrara's fielder's choice added another run to make it 8-2. Babineau reached on an error that scored Adam Klein. Then back-to-back doubles by Brian Kolb and Suttle tacked on three runs to give the RailCats the 12-2 victory. Babineau was 3-for-5 and matched a team season-high with five RBI.
Hiscock's complete game was the second nine-inning complete game of the season for the 'Cats. He allowed the two Sox runs on just four hits, striking out five. It was his ninth quality start of the season as his record improves to 4-5.
Lofgren went 6 1/3 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits. He threw 133 pitches, falling to 4-5 on the season.
The RailCats head to Lincoln for three games to start a six-game road trip. Game one is on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Alberto Rolon (2-4, 7.71) will toe the rubber for the RailCats.
