Fargo-Moorhead wins over Saints

Fargo, ND - Tom Boleska capped off the ninth in the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints, picking up his 24th save of the season and setting a new franchise record for saves in a single season.

Boleska pitched to four batters in the ninth giving up a hit and striking out two batters. HIs 24 saves breaks a franchise record that was set in 2000 by George Schmidt. With the win, the RedHawks are the first team in the American Association to get to 50 wins and are now 50-27 overall this season.

"He's an electrifying guy," said RedHawks manager Doug Simunic of Boleska, "he's something we've missed the last couple years that we have needed."

"It always a nice thing to do," said Boleska on his saves record, "it shows how good the team is putting us in a position to win."

The RedHawks dug out of an early hole in the second picking up two runs in the bottom half. Carlo Cota hit a two-run single driving in Ryan Delgado and Marcos Rodriguez and putting the RedHawks ahead 2-1.

Eric Campbell hit an RBI double in the third, Buddy Sosnoskie hit an RBI infield single that scored Zach Penprase from second in the fourth, and Delgado hit a solo home run in the fifth to put the RedHawks ahead 5-1.

The Saints narrowed the RedHawks lead to 5-3 in the sixth after a Willie Cabrera single drove in Adam Frost and Jose Hernandez.

RedHawks starter Tyler Herron (8-3) pitched seven innings giving up three earned runs on five hits, three walks, and striking out six. Kevin Fuqua relieved Herron pitching a perfect eighth setting up Boleska in the ninth.

Saints starter Anthony Claggett picked up the loss dropping his overall record to 5-3. Claggett pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. Billy Spottiswood and Chris Odegaard combined to pitch the final 3 1/3 innings giving up only and striking out four.

Carlo Cota was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Buddy Sosnoskie was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ryan Delgado had two runs including his 14th home run this season for Fargo-Moorhead.

Adam Frost was 2-for-4 and Willie Cabrera had two RBIs to lead St. Paul (41-36).

The RedHawks hit the road for a three-game series in Sioux Falls before they travel back to Fargo to begin a seven-game homestand beginning on August 13 against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
