St. Paul 7, Fargo-Moorhead 0
Saints 2B Jon Townsend drove in four of his club's seven runs Wednesday in St. Paul's 7-0 win over Fargo-Moorhead. Townsend went 3-for-4, raising his season average to .291. Starting Saints pitcher Kyle Ruwe managed the game well, allowing nine hits but preventing any runs from crossing home plate in his seven innings of work. Ruwe struck out five while walking two RedHawks batters. All nine of Fargo-Moorhead's hits were singles, with DH Ray Delgado going 2-for-3 as one of four RedHawks with multiple hits. A quartet of Saints also tallied two or more hits, with Townsend leading the bunch.
Winnipeg 3, Sioux Falls 2
Goldeys 3B Amos Ramon watched Sioux Falls intentionally walk DH Kyle Day with the score tied and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 2-2 ballgame. Ramon made Sioux Falls pay for that decision, singling in Michale Coles from second to give his club a 3-2, walkoff victory. Ramon walked three times in the game, with his game-winning base knock his only plate appearance that didn't end with a free pass to first base. The Pheasants had tied the score in the top of the inning thanks to two two-out hits. Sioux Falls C Al Quintana singled in the tying run with the Pheasants down to their final out. Quintana went 2-for-3 on the night, but Ramon's heroics in the bottom of the frame undid Quintana's clutch knock.
Wichita 9, Lincoln 1
The Wingnuts scored seven runs in the eighth inning, breaking wide open what had been a tightly contested game. With Wichita leading by just one run entering the frame, 2B/SS Wilberto Ortiz opened the inning with a solo home run. And the fireworks didn't stop there. Wichita picked up two doubles and a Jared McDonald homer before the inning was out, and the team went on to beat Lincoln, 9-1. McDonald scored twice and batted in three runs while going 2-for-4 on the night. Starting Wingnuts pitcher Derek Blacksher earned the victory, his seventh, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing one run on just two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
Grand Prairie 8, Sioux City 7
After trailing for most of the game against Sioux City on Wednesday, Grand Prairie 2B/SS Bryan Frichter seemed to have had enough. With his club behind, 7-6, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Frichter hit a two-run home run that proved to be the game winner. The AirHogs beat the Explorers, 8-7. Frichter led all players in hits, going 3-for-3 from the nine hole, scoring twice and driving in three runs. The Explorers went on top, 2-0, in the first inning and led by as many as five runs before the Grand Prairie comeback. Explorers CF Yusuke Inoguchi hit his second home run of the season while going 2-for-4 in the losing effort.
El Paso 5, Laredo 2
Diablos 2B Daniel Nelson hit a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning, lengthening El Paso's lead from one to four runs. El Paso defeated Laredo, 5-3. The Lemurs took a 1-0 lead in the first. But the Diablos tied the score two innings later, making way for the big El Paso sixth inning. Starting Diablos pitcher Luis Chirinos earned his third win of the year in as many starts, striking out nine over seven innings while allowing one run on five hits and three walks. Lemurs DH John Allen drove in his 44th and 45th runs of the year, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Gary SouthShore 5, Amarillo 4 (16 innings)
Long after the end of the ninth and final scheduled inning, the RailCats got a 16th-inning walkoff single from 3B Brian Kolb to finish off Amarillo, 5-4. Kolb was 2-for-6 on the evening with a run and an RBI. Nearly an hour earlier, in the 13th inning, the Sox pulled ahead in the top half of the frame only to see the RailCats re-tie the sore in the bottom of the inning. Eleven different pitchers took the mound for the clubs. But it was Gary SouthShore relievere Dexter Carter who ended up with the win. Carter didn't allow a hit in his 2.2 innings of work while striking out three and walking one. Six different Sox batters had multiple hits, with 3B Van Pope leading the way. Pope went 3-for-5 with an RBI in his team's losing effort.
