
Pitching Leads El Paso Past Laredo

El Paso, TX - El Paso Diablos starting pitcher Luis Chirinos pitched his team to a 5-2 win over the Laredo Lemurs on Wednesday night at Cohen Stadium in El Paso, Texas.
Chirinos was making his third start for the Diablos and he looked sharp as he went seven complete, giving up one run, one five hits, with three walks, and nine strikeouts. Nine strikeouts is a season high for one pitcher against the Laredo Lemurs this year. The Diablos staff struck out 12 Lemurs batters on the day, which is also a season high for most strikeouts in a game against the Lemurs.
With the game tied at one the Diablos came to the plate in the sixth and put up four runs. The inning started off with back to back hits to put runners at first and second. The next batter Fernando Valenzuela Jr. put down a sac bunt to move the runners up to second and third. Jermy Acey was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up the force at all bases. Zane Chavez came to the plate and walked to drive in a run, and then Daniel Nelson stepped up and cleared the bases with a triple into the right center gap to make it 5-1 Diablos.
Matt Way took the loss for the Lemurs as he worked eight complete, giving up five runs, on six hits, five walks, and four strikeouts. Matt Way has thrown two complete game losses this season.
John Allen continued his hot streak for the Lemurs going two for three with two RBI's. Allen has picked up a base hit in eight straight at bats through his first at bat tonight, with the steak going back to the fourth game against the Grand Prairie Airhogs.
The Lemurs will be on the road for an 11 game trip that will take them to Lincoln, Nebraska, Grand Prairie, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, for their longest trip of the year.
