Errors Costly for Saints in 5-3 Loss

FARGO, ND (August 9, 2012) - The best fielding team in the league picked a bad time to set a season high in errors as the St. Paul Saints committed four errors and dropped the series finale to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-3 on Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field.

The Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second when Miles Durham singled and advanced to third on a single by Joe Spiers. Alex Garabedian's double play ground out scored Durham.

In the bottom of the inning, however, the miscues began. Ryan Delgado walked with one out and Marcos Rodriguez followed with a ground ball to Adam Frost at short. Instead of a potential double play Frost had the ball glance off his glove and ricochet into shallow center to put runners at first and second. Todd Jennings followed with a walk and Carlo Cota knocked home two with a single to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead.

In the third Nic Jackson led off by reaching on an error by Frost. He stole second and scored on a double by Eric Campbell, who advanced to third on Durham's fielding error in right, to give the RedHawks a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth Zach Penprase reached on a two out single, stole second and then scored when Buddy Sosnoskie hit a grounder off of pitcher Anthony Claggett and the ball caromed to Frost at short. He couldn't come up with it cleanly and Penprase raced all the way around from second to score on the infield single to make it 4-1.

The RedHawks scored their final run in the fifth on a solo homer from Delgado, his 14th of the season, to make it 5-1.

The Saints had trouble against RedHawks starter Tyler Herron, who retired 11 in a row from the second until the end of the fifth. In the sixth, however, Frost led off with an infield single. With two outs Jose Hernandez walked and Willie Cabrera roped a two-run double to cut the deficit to two. Cabrera has now doubled in four straight games and has 20 RBI in his last 16 games.

The Saints would wind up with just one more base runner the rest of the game and finished their seven game road trip 3-4 and are now 5.0 games in back of the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the Wild Card.

The Saints return home for a three game series against the Amarillo Sox on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (10-3, 3.31) to the mound against Sox RHP Justin Garcia (7-3, 4.40). It is a Night of Unbelievable Fun presented by the Minnesota Atheists and American Atheists. The game will be televised on the Saints Cable Network which are cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities Metro Area. Fans can check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in their area. The game can also be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
