Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens took their act on the road Wednesday night as they took on the Durham Bulls in game one of a three game set. Taking the mound for Toledo was Thad Weber as he looked for his seventh win of the season. Headed into the game the right hander had a 1-1 record against Durham in two starts this season both coming in June. The Toledo offense looked to carry its hot hitting into Durham against Bulls' starter Blake Snell after they collected thirteen hits in each of the last two games.

However, the result of the game was determined early at Athletic Park as the Bulls sent Weber to the showers early. Durham produced a four run first which was highlighted by a two run home run off the bat off of Taylor Motter. Nick Franklin extended the lead in the third to 8-0 as he sent his ninth home run of the season over the wall and ended Weber's evening on the hill. The right hander exited after just three innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits with all of the runs earned.

After relievers Alberto Cabrera and Rafael Dolis failed to slow down the Bull's offense over their three innings of work, Larry Parrish went to utility infielder Corey Jones for some mop up duty on the mound. After a scoreless seventh for Jones, the Bulls lengthened their lead to 17-1 off the right hander in the eighth.

Blake Snell earned the win for Durham, throwing five innings and allowing just one run on one hit. The only blemish for Snell came off the bat of Daniel Fields in the top of the fourth as the leadoff man hit his seventh home run of the season. The only additional scoring for Toledo came from Steven Moya in the top of the ninth as he struck his team leading 17th home run off Durham reliever Kirby Yates.

The two teams are back on Thursday night in game two of the series. First pitch is set for 7:05PM as Kyle Lobstein takes the mound for Toledo.
