Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the final game of a three-game series at Frontier Field (1:35 p.m.). Following a pair of one-run defeats, the Herd needs to win today to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Red Wings. After Thursday's off day, the Bisons will host Syracuse on Friday at Coca-Cola Field.
Playoff Picture
While the Bisons still trail Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by 5.5 games in the IL North division, the club is now in 3rd place with Rochester taking over the 2nd spot. Buffalo is also 5.5 games out of the race for the lone Wild Card, trailing Columbus and three other teams.
vs. the Red Wings
Rochester has won the season series against the Bisons with the 9-7 edge heading into the final matchup of 2015 today. It's the first time since 2009 (6-10) that the Red Wings have won the season series against the Herd. Rochester (17-12) also holds the half-game lead on the Bisons (18-14) in the 2015 Thruway Cup standings.
Phillippe Aumont
RHP PHILLIPPE AUMONT is coming off his best outing as a Bison. The righty struck out eight and allowed just one run in six innings in a no-decision against Rochester last Thursday. In a season that began in Lehigh Valley, Aumont has now allowed just 59 hits in 81.0 innings.
Andy Burns
INF ANDY BURNS has hit in four straight games and has averaged .370 (20-54) with eight RBI in 16 August games. For the season, Burns' .296 average is 5th-best in the International League. He's also 10th in the IL in hits (120) and 12th in on-base pct. (.354).
Ben Rowen
RHP BEN ROWEN has made seven scoreless appearances since being claimed off waivers from the Cubs on August 3. In 9.2 innings, the righty has allowed just eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Right-handed batters have just two hits in 18 at-bats against him (.111).
Bisons Bits
RHP DREW HUTCHISON will start for the Bisons on Sunday against Syracuse. Hutch was 12-2 in 24 starts with Toronto this season. The Bisons have struck out 763 times this year, 2nd-fewest in the IL.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (66-54) defeated the Phillies last night, 8-5, to remain a game behind the Yankees in the AL East. Josh Donaldson hit two home runs and now has 33 on the season. Former Bison All-Star Liam Hendriks got the win in relief and is now 4-0. Toronto takes on Philly again tonight at 7:05 p.m.
