Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - Adam Henrich scored three goals in the span of 7:10 during the second period to record the first Wheeling Nailers hat trick since the 2005-06 season and help Wheeling beat Reading 6-2 at WesBanco Arena Friday night. Henrich now has six goals and four assists in his first five games as a Nailer after being suspended for the first three games of the season.
Kevin Du and Aaron Boogaard notched the first goals of their professional career and five different Nailers recorded multi-point games. David Brown was strong in goal, stopping 29 of 31 shots, to pick up his second win of the season.
Wheeling opened the first period with a bang, netting a pair of goals in the opening four minutes. Paul Bissonnette knocked home Kevin Croxton's rebound for his fourth goal of the season at 3:26. Boogaard scored just 25 seconds later by pushing his own rebound past Jonathan Quick. Croxton and Seamus Young assisted on the play.
The second period began with Reading's only really threat of the night. Ned Lukacevic launched a slap shot over the glove of Brown to cut the Nailers' lead to one.
Henrich picked up his first goal of the night at 5:15 of the second period with a power-play goal. As Henrich tried to slide a pass across the crease to Ned Havern, it caught a piece of Quick and banked into the goal. At 10:55 he blasted a slapper through Quick just after he stepped onto the ice following a Royal's power play. The goal prompted Karl Taylor to pull Quick in favor of Jeff Pietrasiak after four goals on 15 shots. Sean Collins fed Henrich at the top of the crease for an easy tap in to complete the hat trick at 12:25. It was on the power play making it the sixth time in the first eight games of the season that the Nailers have scored multiple power-play goals in a game.
With the score 5-1, still in the second period, Du intercepted a pass and beat Pietrasiak for his first goal at 16:22. Reading put one past Brown 20 seconds later but it would be the last goal of the game for either side.
Wheeling outshot Reading 37-31 and finished two-for-five on the man-advantage. It was the first of 10 meetings between the two clubs this season.
After a rare Saturday off, the Augusta Lynx come to WesBanco Arena for a game on Sunday with the Nailers at 6:05p.m. It is Sunday Family FunDay and kids can skate with the team after the game. Call 304-234-GOAL for more information or visit www.wheelingnailers.com.
