Gladiators defeat Sea Wolves 6-4

BILOXI, MS - The Gwinnet Gladiators defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves by a score of 6-4 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday evening.

Derek Nesbitt got Gwinnnett on the board in the final binute of the first period when he blasted the rebound of a shot from Jim Jackson past Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey at 19:26. Jackson would give Gwinnett a 2-0 lead early in the second period when he scored at 6:24 of the second.

Lance Monych drew the Sea Wolves within one when he beat Gwinnett goaltender Dan Turple on the power play, batting a loose puck past him with Mississippi on the power play at 15:36 of the second.

Dirk Southern regained a two-goal lead for Gwinnett when he one-timed a pass from Jamie Milam past Cey for a power-play goal at 3:37 of the third period.

Radek Smolenak scored his first of the season when he took a feed from behind the goal from Gio Flamminio and fired a wrist shot past Turple at 4:43 of the third period. Marek Kvapil drew the Sea Wolves even when he pushed the puck along with Turple into the net at 8:04 of the third period.

Less than two minutes later, Gwinnett regained the lead when Lou Dickenson broke in on a two-on-one with Mike Hamilton and launched the puck past Cey at 9:53 of the third. Chad Painchaud notched the game-winner when he picked up a feed from Bryson Busniuk and beat Cey at 11:31.

Travis Lisabeth drew Mississippi within one when he poked a loose puck past Turple at 18:28 of the third period, but Colton Fretter iced the game with an empty-net goal at 19:15.
