Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Alaska scored three times in the final nine minutes of regulation and Bryan Miller smacked home the winner in overtime in an implausible 4-3 Aces victory over Idaho in front of 4,481 shocked spectators Friday at Qwest Arena.

Alaska fell behind early when, as an Idaho power play came to its conclusion, Lance Galbraith went coast-to-coast, beating Chris Beckford-Tseu with a wrist shot from the left circle at 6:59. The Aces finished the period with an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, but failed to score on three power play opportunities of their own.

The second period saw the Alaska offense fall into a comatose state, while Idaho took control on a power play goal by Darrell Hay at the 5:26 mark to push its lead to 2-0. After the Aces managed to erase a five-on-three Steelheads advantage, Idaho converted a two-on-one with the teams back at even strength as Matt Craig fed Mark Bomersback off the rush with 5:36 remaining in the period. Alaska did not register as much as a shot on goal until the final minute of the frame, with the second period shot clock showing a 14-1 bulge for the home team.

The Aces managed just one shot over the first 10 minutes of the final period, and the only suspense remaining seemed to lie in whether or not Steve Silverthorn could polish off the shutout. But and Idaho turnover led directly to a Kimbi Daniels goal with 8:59 remaining that cut the deficit to 3-1. After another six minutes of inert play, the Aces capitalized on another defensive zone turnover by the Steelheads, as Josh Soares found Daniels in the slot for a one-timer that brought Alaska within 3-2 with 2:39 left. 38 seconds later, Daniels returned the favor, feeding Soares in the left circle, and the rookie out of Maine ripped a shot top shelf for the equalizer. The winner came when Bo Cheesman's drive from the point missed the net and caromed off the dasherboards directly to Miller, who deposited his first goal of the season to give the Aces their fourth goal in six shots over a span of 12:47. Alaska was out-shot 31-16 but has now out-scored its opposition 10-4 in the third period this season.

The Aces, 6-2-1 and owners of a three-point lead in the West Division, and Steelheads complete their three-game series tomorrow evening at 5:10 p.m. ADT. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
