Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce that this year's proceeds from the jersey auction at the 24th Annual Fifth-Third Bank World Famous Green Ice Game will be donated to the Lakeside Treatment and Learning Center.
Every year the Kalamazoo Wings look for a local charity that shares the same commitment we have in improving the community. This season, the K-Wings were looking for an organization that was focused on improving the lives of children.
The philosophy at Lakeside Treatment and Learning Center is to make a difference in the lives of children and youth by placing their needs first, because every child deserves a chance.
"We have the same philosophy," said Vice President and General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "They spend their days trying to improve the quality of life of our youth and the K-Wings organization wants to help them in their cause."
Over the past several months, Lakeside Treatment and Learning Center has been recertified by the state and is going through a rebuilding stage.
"In this time of rebuilding their organization, now more than ever is when they need help from the community," said Pickard. "Like the K-Wings, I believe Lakeside is Flying into the Future."
This year's jersey auction won't be the first time the K-Wings and Lakeside have teamed up. Over the years, the Kalamazoo Wings have help raise money for Lakeside through their annual bowl-a-thon that occurs at Continental Lanes. This year's event will take place on February 6th. Bowling teams will have the chance to help out a good cause and meet the K-Wings players. Individuals or teams interested in signing up for this year's event can do so by calling Continental Lanes (269) 343-2626.
"Wings Stadium and the K-Wings have always been a strong partner," said Debra Mixis Chief Operation Officer "We are extremely grateful for their generosity as we focus on giving children the opportunities they deserve.
The 24th Annual Fifth-Third World Famous Green Ice Game will occur on Thursday, March 17th, when the K-Wings host their arch-rivals the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30 pm.
