Helicopter Candy Drop, Whoopie Pie Eating Contest and More
August 15, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers have a massive weekend planned at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The helicopter candy drop, which was cancelled due to inclement weather at the end of July, has been rescheduled for this evening, Friday, August 15th immediately following the fireworks show at the conclusion of the game. The Hershey Company has worked closely with the Barnstormers to recreate the much-anticipated event. More than 12,000 Twizzlers, Jolly Ranchers and other candy will be dropped from an East Coast helicopter for children ages 10 and under to pick up from the outfield grass.
Saturday, August 16th, marks the First Annual WHOOPIE PIE NIGHT at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Hershey Farms will be giving away delicious mini Whoopie Pies to the first 1,000 fans! A Whoopie Pie eating contest and a Whoopie Pie festival t-shirt toss into the crowd are just a few activities scheduled for Saturday. A massive Whoopie Pie will even be raffled off to one lucky, (hungry) fan! There will also be a Parade to honor the Youth Football Players of Lancaster County before the game. Following the game, the Barnstormers will blast their final on-field fireworks show of the season!
Both Friday and Saturday Nights will also feature a pre-game ceremony honoring those children who have completed the Lancaster County Libraries' Summer Reading Program. "Mother Goose" and the "Book-Worm" will lead the readers around the Stadium for a reading celebration ceremony on both nights.
The weekend closes with a very important event, "Helping our Homeless Veterans" Day, on Sunday, August 17th. Managed by County Commissioner, Craig Lehman, the Helping our Homeless Veterans program will help raise funds for three Lancaster County residential programs for homeless veterans. There will also be a special patriotic hat that all Barnstormers players will wear that will be auctioned off during the game.
The Lancaster Barnstormers will also be "jumping" in the Social Media craze of dousing people with water to raise funds and awareness for ALS. Action Rental will be donating the Dunk Tank and various Barnstormers staff members including Vice President Tony DeMarco and Director of Business of Development, Bob Ford, will be in the chair. Participants can throw one ball for $2 or 3 balls for $5 to dunk Barnstormers staff.
The Lancaster Barnstormers are in their tenth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
