
Blue Crabs Take Opener over Barnstormers

WALDORF, MD . - Cyle Hankerd went 3-for-4 with two home runs as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-2 in the opener of their three-game series.
Cole Garner hit his league-leading 21st home run of the season in the bottom of the 1st inning to put Lancaster in front 1-0.
Luke Murton led off the 2nd inning with a double and eventually came into score on a James Skelton RBI groundout. Southern Maryland took the lead for good in the 3rd inning when C.J. Ziegler brought in Hankerd with an RBI single.
The Blue Crabs added to their lead with three runs in the top of the 5th. Cyle Hankerd led off with a solo home run, his first since returning to the club. Angel Chavez added an RBI single and Amadeo Zazueta drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 5-0.
Chavez added a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning and Hankerd hit his second home run of the night in the 8th to make it 7-1 Blue Crabs.
