Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 15, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish have announced that they will hold an Eddie Gaedel tribute night on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:05 p.m.
August 19th marks the 63rd anniversary of when Gaedel, a three foot-seven inch, 65 pound ballplayer appeared in one Major League game for the St. Louis Browns. Between games of a doubleheader, Gaedel came out of a paper mache cake to celebrate the American League's 50th Anniversary. He then pinch-hit in the bottom of the first inning of game two of the doubleheader as he was walked on four straight pitches by Detroit Tigers pitcher Bob Cain and then was replaced by pinch-runner Jim Delsing.
For their game against the Ducks on Tuesday August 19th, the Bluefish will sign four foot-one inch Colin Buckingham. Buckingham will play during the game and become the shortest player in league history to appear in a regular season contest.
"Colin has played organized baseball as high as Little League so we are expecting a lot out of him," said Bluefish General Manager Ken Shepard. "His appearance with the Bluefish will be nothing short of amazing. Expect some other surprises that day."
Buckingham is an actor who has appeared on the hit show 30 Rock, the movie Men in Black 3 and is also in an upcoming TV series titled Deadbeat and a TV movie called Help Yourself.
