Revs Seeing Greene In Series-Opening Victory

August 15, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Justin Greene went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI to lead the York Revolution to a 4-2 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish in the first of a six-game homestand on Friday night at Santander Stadium. The Revs have now won five of their last seven overall, and will host the Bluefish again on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

It marked the sixth consecutive victory in which the Revs have come from behind, as Bridgeport scored in the first and fourth innings to grab a 2-0 lead.

James Simmons led off the game with a bloop single to right-center, and scored on a Sean Burroughs double to the gap in right-center for the game's first tally.

The Revs very nearly exploded in front in the third, loading the bases against Bluefish starter Hunter Jones, only to have Travis Garcia miss a grand slam by mere feet on a rocket that drilled the banner attached to the left field foul pole, in foul territory. York left the bases loaded, failing to score despite a 31-pitch inning from Jones.

Bridgeport extended the lead in the fourth as J.R. Towles was ruled safe on a contested call at second base, beating out a leadoff double to left. Ramon Castro followed with an infield single, and Towles came home on a double play grounder, increasing Bridgeport's lead to 2-0.

After narrowly missing a big inning the frame before, the Revs did get to Jones in the fourth, and forced the lefty to labor through another long inning. Ofilio Castro got things started with a double down the left field line, and Sean Smith followed with a bunt single. A walk to Tim Battle loaded the bases with no outs. Angel Flores scalded a line drive to third that was caught for the first out, but Greene came through with a two-run double off the Arch Nemesis in left, tying the score at 2-2. Wilson Valdez followed with an RBI groundout to short, giving York a 3-2 lead.

Greene added an RBI double to right-center with two outs in the sixth, giving York the two-run cushion. It was Greene's fourth four-hit game this season, as the league's batting leader raised his average seven points to .375.

Revs starter Scott Gorgen (5-7, 2-1) allowed just two runs over six innings to earn the win. He is now 2-0 with a 2.62 ERA over his last six starts.

Edward Paredes and Beau Vaughan both worked perfect innings in setup relief, and Rommie Lewis skated past a walk and a single to start the ninth, stranding the tying two runners in scoring position to secure his 28th save of the season, adding to his club record.

York lefty Alain Quijano (9-6, 3.67) will face Bridgeport knuckleballer Tomo Ohka (6-9, 4.80) on Saturday night. It is Dance Night presented by Curtain Call & Life Is...Dance, Gym and Swim. The night features an appearance by Abby Lee Miller from the hit show "Dance Moms" with autographs and photos from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It all begins with a Stauffer's Family Fun Fest before the game on the Brooks Robinson Plaza and concludes with Postgame Fireworks presented by Stauffer's. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.

Notes: Paredes has now worked 13.1 scoreless innings over his last eight appearances, and has retired 28 of 31 batters over his last six outings. Lewis has worked 12.0 scoreless innings over his last 12 outings, while adding to his Revs record with his 33rd career save in a York uniform. Greene has hit safely in 28 of his last 32 games, including a current nine-game hitting streak. The Revs improve to 8-7 against Bridgeport this season, and 38-22 against Liberty Division opponents. York now owns 26 comeback victories on the season.
