Hawks Fall 3-1 to Everett Friday in Preseason Action

The Portland Winterhawks fell 3-1 to the Everett Silvertips in preseason action Friday in Kennewick, WA.

After a scoreless first period, Everett struck first 4:09 into the second on a goal from Spencer Gerth. The Hawks responded at 9:12 when Alex Overhardt scored his fourth of the preseason to even the game at 1-1. Everett went back up at 11:36 on a goal by Patrick Bajkov, then took a 3-1 lead into the third when Dawson Leedahl scored a power play goal with 12 seconds to go in the frame.

The Hawks attempted to make a comeback in the third, but Everett came away with the win.

Overhardt's goal was his fourth of the preseason, tying him for the WHL lead. His six points rank second in the league.

The Hawks were once again shorthanded Friday, as nine players are away at NHL camps. Among those players, Paul Bittner was scheduled to be in the lineup as the Columbus Blue Jackets face off against the St. Louis Blues in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament.
