Winterhawks Acquire Igor Larionov, Jr.
September 11, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks have acquired the rights to 17-year-old Igor Larionov, Jr. and a conditional Bantam Draft pick from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for the rights to Garrett Wait and a conditional pick in the 2016 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
Larionov played 10 games last season with Honeybaked U18 (Detroit) in the High Performance Hockey League, with three goals and an assist for four points.
"We're excited to acquire the rights to Igor Larionov, Jr. We feel that he has the ability to add some offense into our current lineup while adding depth in our younger age group," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Jamie Kompon. "We look forward to him joining our team and beginning his career in the WHL."
Larionov is the son of Hockey Hall of Fame forward Igor Larionov. The elder Larionov played 921 NHL games from 1989-2004 with the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils, amassing 169 goals and 475 assists for 644 points. Prior to his arrival in the NHL, he was one of the most decorated players in the former Soviet Union, with two Olympic gold medals, four gold medals in the World Championship and two gold medals in the World Junior Championship.
Wait was selected by the Hawks in the eighth round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. A native of Edina, Minnesota, Wait will play this season for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League.
Premier membership season tickets for the 2015-16 season are on sale now and start at only $42 per month and include playoffs. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
