Harrisburg Senators News Release
Akron, OH - The Harrisburg Senators outlasted the Akron Aeros, 7-5, Sunday at Canal Park. Mike Daniel clubbed a grand slam to pace the offense. LHP Yunior Novoa and RHP Josh Perrault combined for 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Senators got on the board in a big way in the 2nd inning. With two out and the bases loaded, Daniel pounded a 3-2 pitch out of the park to left for a grand slam, putting the Senators ahead 4-0.
Akron came back with a big 3rd frame. Bronson Sardinha's bases-clearing double off RHP Zack Segovia cut it to 4-3. Wyatt Toregas hit an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4, and two batters later Ryan Goleski hit a sacrifice fly to give the Aeros a 5-4 advantage.
Harrisburg took the lead back in the 4th. Former Aero Javi Herrera cranked a leadoff home run down the left-field line to tie it at 5-5. Seth Bynum and Daniel hit back-to-back singles and Ian Desmond walked to load the bases with nobody out. The Aeros went to RHP J.D. Martin out of the bullpen, who induced a run-scoring fielder's choice by Bill Rhinehart and an RBI sacrifice fly to Marvin Lowrance to give Harrisburg a 7-5 lead.
The Senators dodged a bullet in the bottom of the 8th. Akron put runners at first and second with one out, but Herrera picked Jose Constanza off first base with a snap throw from behind the plate. Then Rhinehart made a diving catch on a line drive to end the inning.
Novoa went 2.2 innings scoreless to pick up the win in his first career Double-A decision. Perrault notched his first save of the season. RHP Kevin Dixon was saddled with the loss to even his record at 8-8.
The Senators improved to 63-51 to close to 4.5 games behind the Aeros in the Southern Division standings. Akron is now 68-47.
The Senators head to Erie to open a three-game series against the SeaWolves (Double-A Detroit Tigers) Monday at 7:05 PM. Harrisburg's starter is to be announced; the SeaWolves send LHP Danny Christensen (5-8, 4.21 ERA) to the mound.
