Aerodynamics...

Manufacturing Offense...The manufacturing industry may be struggling in many parts of the country, but not at Canal Park where the Aeros played small ball to create their runs in last night's 4-1 win over Harrisburg. Akron scratched out a run in the first inning without the help of a hit. CF Jose Constanza was hit by a pitch to start the inning and stole second base. 2B Josh Rodriguez then walked and Constanza swiped third base with 3B Wes Hodges at the plate. Hodges followed with a sacrifice fly down the right-field line that easily scored Constanza, giving Akron the lead. In the third, SS Brandon Pinckney drew a leadoff walk and Constanza moved him over with a sac bunt. Rodriguez followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Hodges drove Pinckney home with his second sacrifice fly of the night, giving Akron a 2-1 lead. The Aeros added insurance in the eighth with a two-out rally. RF Stephen Head doubled and DH Wyatt Toregas and LF Ryan Goleski walked to load the bases for C Damaso Espino, who singled through the left side, scoring two runs for a 4-1 Aeros lead. The Aeros had seven hits on the night and while no player had multiple hits, everyone in the lineup reached base at least once.

Awesome Edell...Akron starter Ryan Edell worked seven strong innings last night to pick up his sixth win of the season. The left-hander has now gone eight straight starts without allowing more than three earned runs in an outing (dating back to June 26th). Last night, he retired the first seven men he faced on his way to allowing just three hits and two walks. His only blemish came with two outs in the third, when Seth Bynum socked a solo home run to right that tied the game at 1-1. Outside of the home run, just one runner reached second base off the Boston, MA native. RHP Scott Roehl relieved him to start the eighth and allowed only a single before LHP Reid Santos came on to face left-hander Mike Daniel, who flew out to end the inning. RHP Randy Newsom notched his 25th save of the season and the 43rd of his Akron career with a scoreless ninth inning, recording all three outs on ground balls to second base.

Home Sweet Home...Today marks the final game of a 10-game homestand for the Aeros. Akron is 5-4 on the homestand after taking two of three from Binghamton last weekend and splitting four games with Erie. Today is the rubber match for Akron and Harrisburg in this series, and the Aeros will also look for a season series win after taking seven of the first 13.

Keeping Busy...Today's starter for Harrisburg RHP Zack Segovia has pitched for six different teams this season. He began the year in the Philadelphia organization with Reading (AA) before being sent down to Clearwater (High-A). After seven starts there, he was released and picked up by Washington, and reported to the GCL Nationals (Rookie). Then after one start at Hagerstown (A), he made three starts at Potomac (High-A), before joining Harrisburg.
