
Magee masterful as Fisher Cats complete sweep of Defenders

Manchester, NH- Brandon Magee tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout Sunday afternoon as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat Connecticut Defenders 8-0 before a crowd of 5,846 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Magee (5-11) tossed the first shutout of his career in winning for the fifth time in his last six decisions. He walked two and had four strikeouts.
New Hampshire (49-66) started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning. J.P. Arencibia led off the inning with a double. David Smith (2-for-4, HR, RBI) singled as Arencibia advanced to third. Jacob Butler, Jonathan Diaz and Ryan Klosterman (2-for-3, RBI) then each produced two-out, run scoring singles.
The last of the fifth inning was historic for the Fisher Cats. Travis Snider led off with a single. After Arencibia struck out, the Fisher Cats launched three consecutive home runs for the first time in franchise history. Andrew Pinckney's two-run shot was his first as a member of the Fisher Cats. David Smith followed with a solo home run to right field, the his 52nd as a Fisher Cats player, making him the franchise career leader. Kyle Phillips then followed with a shot to right field to make it 7-0 Fisher Cats.
New Hampshire added one more run off reliever Justin Hedrick in the bottom of the eighth inning. Phillips and Butler walked and Klosterman singled to right field scoring Phillips.
The Fisher Cats completed a three-game sweep of Connecticut (55-57) and finished the homestand with six wins in eight games.
New Hampshire opens a seven-game road trip on Monday night at 7:05pm in New Britain against the Rock Cats (Minnesota AA). RHP Robert Ray (5-4, 3.12) goes for the Fisher Cats against New Britain RHP Yohan Pino (4-4, 4.68). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
New Hampshire returns home on Tuesday, August 12. They will open the homestand with a twi-night doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators at 6:05pm.
