Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The red-hot Bowie Baysox continued their offensive onslaught against the Altoona Curve on Sunday night at Blair County Ballpark. The Baysox thumped the Curve, 10-2 to complete a three-game sweep.
A crowd of 6,698 enjoyed a great fireworks show following the game, courtesy of S&T Bank, but once again the Baysox provided all the offensive fireworks on the field.
In the three-games, the Baysox tallied 41 runs and collected 54 hits in just 27 innings of baseball.
The victory for Bowie (67-49) is their seventh in their last eight opportunities.
The loss for Altoona (51-64) is their fifth straight, which is just one short of their season-high.
Bowie put the game away early with a seven-run, top of the second inning off of Curve starter Dan Reichert (1-2). Reichert allowed seven hits in the inning, with the back-breaker coming in the form of a three-run, inside-the-park homerun off the bat of Sebastien Boucher.
Bowie added a single run in the top of the fourth via a solo home run from Lou Montanez (3-for-4), before Bowie plated another in the top of the eighth. Montanez, after hitting for the cycle on Friday night was just a triple away from the cycle on Sunday.
Altoona grabbed a run each in the third and the eighth. Jim Negrych's RBI groundout scored Miguel Perez, while James Boone provided a run-producing groundout which brought home Brad Corley.
Aside from their outburst in the second inning, the Baysox added single runs in the top of the seventh and the eighth. Ryan Finan enjoyed a 4-for-5 night and crushed a home run to right field to extend the Bowie lead to 10-2.
David Hernandez (6-4) allowed just one run over five innings of work. He struck out eight batters to earn his sixth win of the season.
The Curve will look to stop their skid on Monday night at 7:05 as they prepare to open a three-game series against the first place Akron Aeros (Double-A/Cleveland Indians).
Altoona will turn the ball to southpaw Kyle Bloom (2-6, 4.30), while Akron is scheduled to start left-hander Scott Lewis (5-2, 2.85).
Monday's game will feature an appearance from national entertainment act Dave the Horn Guy. A family of four can also save big through the Curve's Ponderosa Family 4-Pack Monday. A family of four can get four grandstand tickets, four hot dogs and four small sodas for just $40.
Great seats for Monday's game and the remaining Curve homestand, which last through Wednesday, are still available. Fans can lock up their tickets over the phone at 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark ticket windows.
NOTES - Jonel Pacheco, just activated form the disabled list on Saturday, enjoyed a three-hit night. Pacheco now has a five-game hitting streak, which extends back to July 9 prior to his 17-day stint on the D.L....Catcher Miguel Perez had to leave Sunday's game with a leg injury after he came up limping after he grounded out in the fourth inning.
