Harrisburg Handles Thunder

Trenton, NJ - Errors and miscues in the first three innings led to a 7-1 Thunder loss on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. Harrisburg went up 5-0 early and managed to hold Trenton to just one unearned run on four hits. The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm.

RHP Tanner Roark held Trenton to one hit through the first five innings to earn the win. Roark (1-1) tossed six innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts. The Thunder pushed across their only run in the sixth inning with two hits and an error to load the bases. Dan Brewer followed with a sacrifice fly to deep right center scoring Luis Nunez.

Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with the first of two unearned runs off RHP Arbiso. With one out Josh Johnson doubled and moved to third on an infield hit. Ofilio Castro followed with a line drive single to score Johnson. Harrisburg scored two more runs in the second inning with RBI hits from Johnson and Steve Lombardozzi.

The Senators added two more unearned runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. Arbiso (4-2) battled through 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on ten hits with four strikeouts. George Kontos entered with a runner on in the fifth and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.

RHP Kevin Whelan allowed two more runs in the eighth inning for a 7-1 Harrisburg lead. With two outs the Senators picked up three consecutive hits from Edgardo Baez, Jhonotan Solano and Brad Coon. Whelan struck out two and walked none in one inning worked. Josh Schmidt pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
