Aerodynamics.
. Lucky Day. The Aeros rallied to score eight unanswered runs en route to an 11-7 win over the New Britain Rock Cats at Canal Park Friday night after facing an early deficit. The 'Cats jumped out to a 6-3 lead after the first three frames, with the last three scoring on a home run by Jeff Howell with two out in the top of the third. Akron then tied a season-high with seven runs in a 35-minute bottom of the fifth inning where they claimed a four-run advantage. A solo home run by second baseman Jason Kipnis began the rally, and shortstop Carlos Rivero later doubled in third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall. Designated hitter Cristo Arnal gave the Aeros the lead for good with a bases loaded triple to left and two RBI from center fielder Jordan Henry and Kipnis cemented the frame. Each team scored in the sixth inning as southpaw reliever Nick Hagadone (2-1) earned the win for Akron with two innings pitched and New Britain starter Deolis Guerra (2-9) allowed the first seven runs (five earned) in taking the loss.
. Rough Sailing. Left-handed starting pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz struggled as well for the Aeros Friday but did not factor into the decision. He permitted six runs on six hits with six walks and three strikeouts in four innings, his worst outing since a May 31st start against Binghamton. In both games, he gave allowed six runs on six hits without a decision as Akron rallied to win.
. Oh Henry. Henry belted out three hits last night in his five plate appearances, including a triple and two RBI. The University of Mississippi product earned the promotion from Class A Kinston on June 14th and he has had an impressive first full season in professional baseball. He currently has a combined .406 on-base percentage, leading the entire Indians system and now has a .285 batting average in 50 games in Double-A. Henry was Cleveland's seventh-round selection in the June 2009 Draft.
. The Count. Friday's offensive star was Arnal as he tripled and singled, tying a career-high with his three RBI. The 24-year-old now has a season-high six-game hitting streak after previously not hitting in three straight games in his first 32 Akron contests. During his current stretch since August 3rd, Arnal is batting .304 (7-for-23) with a double, a triple and four runs scored.
. Hit Parade. The entire Akron starting lineup hit safely yesterday, with seven of the starting nine recording multi-hit games. The Aeros collected 17 hits overall, two short of the season's best mark set July 18th against Erie and four batters finished with both multiple hits and multiple RBI. Akron's franchise record for most hits in a game is 27, set in 1999 also against New Britain.
. Inch by Inch. The Aeros gained ground again on second-place Bowie with their victory Friday. The Baysox now lead third-place Harrisburg by one game and the Senators then have a 1.5-game edge over Akron in the Western Division wild card race.
