Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - A night after playing the second-longest game in franchise history of 5 hours and 49 minutes, the Curve was able to take care of the Fisher Cats with a, 2-0, win in just 2 hours and eight minutes on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark. Justin Wilson (10-6) turned in the best outing of his pro career on Saturday night, tossing a career-high eight innings and tying a career high with 11 strikeouts while not allowing a run.
Daniel Moskos, in his first game back with the Curve, recorded his 18th save with a perfect ninth inning including one strikeout.
Wilson set the tone early in the first inning, striking out the first two batters of the game before allowing a single to Eric Thames. He finished off the inning by striking out cleanup hitter Shawn Bowman and the Fisher Cats wouldn't get another hit off of Wilson until the sixth when Darin Mastroianni singled.
Altoona scored the only runs that Wilson needed in the second off spot starter B.J. LaMura (5-4) and it began with one away when Jordy Mercer singled. After LaMura walked Friday night's hero Miles Durham, Jim Negrych cashed them both in with a two-RBI double to give the Curve its, 2-0, lead. Negrych would be put out on the play trying to stretch it into a triple but it wouldn't matter as Wilson went back to work.
The Anaheim, Calif. native faced the minimum in six of his eight innings on Saturday night and faced just one batter over the minimum in his other two innings. The Fisher Cats never advanced a runner to second base in the game.
Strangely enough for Altoona, they finished the game with three hits and had more batters reach base by way of the hit batsmen as four different Curve players were hit by a pitch in the game.
It is the fifth shutout of the season for the Altoona Curve and its third at BCB.
Altoona (69-50), having secured a series win, will go for the sweep of the Fisher Cats (68-51) at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Blair County Ballpark. Southpaw Rudy Owens (9-6, 2.74), who tossed five shutout innings in the first game of the homestand, will throw for Altoona while RHP Randy Boone (3-8, 4.30) starts for New Hampshire.
Postgame fireworks presented by Fun Central of Clearfield will light up the sky after the game with the Fisher Cats on Sunday. It's also a Galliker's Kids Club Sunday and Punxsutawney Community Night in Curve, Pa. Fans can play catch in the outfield from 5-5:30 p.m. and kids can run the bases after the game as well.
Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Great seats for Sunday night's game are still available by calling 877.99.CURVE, visiting www.AltoonaCurve.com or by stopping into the box office at BCB.
