Harrisburg Senators News Release
Five runs in the first three innings set the tone, and the Harrisburg Senators cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Trenton Thunder at Mercer County Waterfront Park on Saturday night. The Senators are now 63-56 with the win, while the Thunder fell to 71-49. Tanner Roark (1-1) picked up the win for the Sens, allowing just one unearned run in his six innings of work. Cory Arbiso of Trenton gave up five runs in four and two-thirds innings, and took the loss to fall to 4-2.
The Senators first run came in the first inning, when Ofilio Castro singled home Josh Johnson, who had doubled earlier in the inning. Two more runs came in the second, when Stephen Lombardozzi doubled in Brad Coon, and then scored on a Johnson single. Then, in the third, an Edgardo Baez double made it 5-0, as Chris Marrero and Tim Pahuta came around to score against Arbiso. Trenton scored one run in the sixth on a Daniel Brewer sacrifice fly, but the Senators extended their lead with two more in the eighth. Those runs came on a Jhonatan Solano single and a Brad Coon double, with Baez and Solano scoring the runs.
The Sens outhit Trenton 14-4 in the ballgame, getting multi-hit games from six separate players. Castro had three hits, while Lombardozzi, Johnson, Baez, Coon, and Jesus Valdez each had two. Solano had the remaining hit. Jack Spradlin and Cory VanAllen combined to pitch the final three innings in relief of Roark, without allowing a run between them.
Both the Senators and Thunder have won one game in the series thus far, with the rubber match scheduled for Sunday at 5:05 PM. Left-hander Aaron Thompson (4-11, 5.84) starts for the Sens, against RHP Hector Noesi (6-4, 3.57) of Trenton. The Sens are still one game behind the Bowie Baysox for the second and final playoff spot in the Eastern League's Western Division. Radio coverage of Sunday's game begins at 4:50 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
