EL1 Harrisburg Senators

Harrisburg Beats New Hampshire

June 3, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

In nearly a repeat of Tuesday night, the Senators again shut out New Hampshire on Wednesday night 4-0. The Sens pitching staff entered the series 11th in the league in ERA, but have allowed just one earned run in the entire series and no runs in their past 24 innings.

Wednesday night it was Zack Segovia making the spot start and going the first four innings plus two hitters in the fifth, allowing seven hits before turning the game over to the eventual winner Andrew Kown. Kown struck out the first three hitters he faced, stranding Cats at first and second. He went on to pitch three scoreless innings, allowing just a walk. Dave Williams pitched the final two innings, retiring all six batters he faced.

The Sens didn't do much offensively, but what they did, they did at one time in the third inning. Matt Whitney started the rally with a double. Jemel Spearman reached on a sacrifice bunt that turned into a fielder's choice when Fisher Cats starter Luis Perez threw late to third base. Then on consecutive pitches Michael Martinez doubled to left to drive in one, and Ofilio Castro tripled to left center to drive in two. Joel Guzman finished the scoring with a double to right center.

The Sens defense was strong again on Wednesday night. Leonard Davis preserved the shut out streak when he threw out Chris Gutierrez at the plate to end the top of the third. Jemel Spearman made a nice diving catch to end the seventh inning.

Thursday afternoon at 12:00pm the Senators go for the series win with LH Justin Jones on the mound.
