ERIE, PA - The Altoona Curve and the Erie SeaWolves combined for 21 runs in Tuesday night's slugfest and the bats stayed hot all through Wednesday night, but this time it was the Curve who came out on top with a 10-8 victory.
Eight of the nine Curve starters recorded hits with Brian Friday leading the way going 3-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI.
Erie got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on a two run home run by Ryan Strieby. Then in the second the SeaWolves picked up another run on a Jeff Kunkel single to give Erie a 3-0 lead.
The Curve responded in a big way in the third inning when six of the first seven batters reaching base. The bases were loaded after Hector Gimenez singled followed by walks to Pedro Lopez and Jim Negrych. Jonel Pacheco and Jeff Corsaletti each had RBI singles before Jason Delaney singled home two runs. Steve Lerud continued the single parade by slapping one to left field for an RBI and then Corsaletti scored the final run of the inning on an error. For the inning the Curve recorded five singles and six runs, a team high in runs for the season and the Curve led 6-3.
Erie picked a run in the bottom of the third and then tied the game in the fifth on a two run triple by Mike Hollimon.
In the sixth the Curve would retake the lead on RBI singles by Lopez and Pacheco and a third run scored on a fielding error to put the Curve ahead 9-6.
Erie answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on solo home runs by Brennan Boesch and Kunkel.
Shortstop Brian Friday hit an RBI double to right field in the seventh inning to extend the Curve lead to 10-8.
The four game series concludes Thursday night as the Curve look to take three of four from the SeaWolves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Thursday night's probable starters are LHP Daniel Moskos (2-4, 4.15) for Altoona (16-35) and RHP Jonah Nickerson (3-3, 5.54) for Erie (30-21).
