Hague Caps Wolves' Rally with Overtime Winner

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Chicago Wolves pulled off a furious rally to snap a five-game losing streak, scoring four unanswered goals to best the Iowa Wild 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Rookie defenseman Nic Hague celebrated his 20th birthday with a two-goal effort, including the overtime-winner with 57 seconds remaining in the extra session, and forward Brandon Pirri assisted each of the four tallies.
Forward Daniel Carr and defenseman Dylan Coghlan each put up power-play goals for Chicago (11-9-2-1), helping the Wolves go 3-for-6 against the second-best penalty-killing unit in the AHL. Netminder Max Lagace (5-5-1) made 16 saves to earn the win.
Justin Kloos, Luke Kunin and Gerry Fitzgerald each tallied goals for Iowa (13-4-4-2) while goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen (6-1-4) saved 26 of 30 shots.
With less than a minute remaining in the overtime session, Pirri collected a puck in the neutral zone and raced down the right side of the ice in a two-on-one with Hague. Pirri dished the puck to Hague in the low slot and the defenseman snuck the pass between Kahkonen and the post for the overtime victory.
Iowa opened the scoring with two quick goals, holding a 2-0 lead by the 4:06 mark of the first period, and extended the advantage to 3-0 early in the second period.
Chicago's defense locked down after the third Iowa goal, allowing just 10 shots on net for the rest of the game, and the Wolves dusted themselves off and began the rally less than two minutes later.
Carr, returning to the Wolves on Wednesday morning on loan from the Vegas Golden Knights, crashed to the net after a battle in the corner and was able to knock home the rebound of defenseman Erik Brannstrom's shot from the point at the 8:11 mark of the second.
Hague made it a one-goal game at the 1:40 mark of the third period, collecting a cross-ice pass from Brannstrom and sending the puck from the blue line past Kahkonen.
Coghlan forced overtime with his power-play goal at 12:43, ringing a shot off the post and in to tie the Wolves' season-high three power-play goals. The Wolves were able to draw the Wild low with a 5-on-3 advantage, leaving Coghlan all alone atop the right circle.
