Checkers, SONC to Host Polar Plunge on January 19

The Charlotte Checkers today announced that they will be hosting Charlotte's first ever Polar Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 19, to benefit Special Olympics North Carolina.

All those who register to take the plunge into a frigid outdoor pool outside of Bojangles' Coliseum or make a qualifying donation to SONC will receive a free ticket to that night's Checkers home game against the Toronto Marlies. Additional incentives, including Checkers hats, unique pregame experiences and in-game recognition, are available to top individual fundraisers.

The day's festivities begin with on-site registrations and check ins at 11:30 a.m. and the Parade of Plungers at 12:30 p.m. before plunging begins at 1. Doors to Bojangles' Coliseum open at 4:30 p.m. leading up to the 6 p.m. Checkers game.

The cost to register for the Polar Plunge is $75 and comes with a commemorative t-shirt in addition to a game ticket. Those "Too Chicken to Plunge" can receive VIP access to the plunge spectator viewing deck and a game ticket for $35.
