The Hagerstown Suns hit three home runs and took their third straight victory over the Lexington Legends with an 8-3 win Thursday night in Hagerstown.
J.P. Ramirez' leadoff homer in the second inning gave the Suns a 1-0 lead. It was Ramirez' 12th home run of the season and third in the four-game series. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when Justin Bloxom's two-run shot gave the Suns a three-run margin.
Hagerstown broke the game open with five runs in the seventh inning. With one out, Brett Newsome doubled. After Stephen King flied out, Sandy Leon walked, and Eury Perez tripled home two runs. Legends starter Tanner Bushue was relieved by Daniel Sarisky at that point. Rick Hague singled to score Perez, giving Hagerstown a 6-0 lead. Adrian Sanchez followed with a home run to right center to put the Suns in front 8-0.
The Legends did all their scoring in the ninth. Jiovanni Mier was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Jimmy Paredes doubled, sending Mier to third, and Jake Goebbert doubled to left center, scoring both Paredes and Mier. Goebbert leads the South Atlantic League with 36 doubles. Kody Hinze then singled, bringing in Goebbert with the game's final run. It was the 80th RBI of the season for Hinze, who leads the South Atlantic League.
Hagerstown starter Billy Ott (1-0) got the win in his first start for the Suns. Ott joined the team Wednesday after a promotion from the Gulf Coast League. Bushue (5-6), who pitched the first six and two-thirds innings for the Legends, took the loss.
The Legends begin a five-game series Friday night in Salisbury, Maryland against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
