Kempf, Relievers Blank Gnats

The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 1-0 Thursday night in front of 2,158 fans to sweep the four game series. Braves starter, Willie Kempf, picked up hit first win of the season after pitching six innings and giving up zero runs. Relievers Wilton Estavez and Steven Kent combined to perserve the shut out victory. The start of the game was delayed one hour and four minutes due to heavy rain in the area.

The Braves scored the only run of the night in the fifth inning. Edward Salcedo led off the inning with a base hit then scored when Matt Weaver reached on a bunt single followed by a throwing error from pitcher, Collin McHugh.

Rome's Kempf picks up the win for Rome while Savannah's starter, McHugh, gets the loss. Steven Kent (1) earns the save. After the game, the Braves travel to Greenville for a five game series before returning to Rome on August 12th.
