
Haerther and Oliver homer in 11-4 romp over Chiefs

Peoria, IL - Casey Haerther and Eric Oliver both homered as the Cedar Rapids Kernels took the final game of a three game set with the Peoria Chiefs by the score of 11-4 on Thursday afternoon at O'Brien Field in Peoria. The twosome combined to drive in six of the Kernels 11 runs and have seven of the Kernels 12 hits.
Haerther finished the game 4-5 and added a double to go with his homer and 2 RBI. Oliver went 3-5 and also had a double to go with his homer and 4 RBI. Luis Jimenez went 2-5 with an RBI and Mike Trout extended his current hitting streak to 11 games and has hit safely in 23 of the 26 games he's played.
Kernels starter Patrick Corbin improved to 5-0 on the year as he allowed thee runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked two and struck out four over 5.2 innings. Buddy Boshers, Jon Bachanov and Johnny Hellweg combined to allow one run over the final 3.1 innings. Peoria starter Nick Struck (2-3) was roughed up for six runs (four earned) on three hits, walked four and struck out none over 2.1 innings as the Chiefs committed six errors in the game.
The Kernels will now travel to Milwaukee, WI and play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night at 7:05 pm from Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, in the first game of a three game series. The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, May 10th and open a three game home stand against the Burlington Bees.
